In Genesis 14, Abram rescues his nephew Lot from a coalition of kings, then receives a blessing from Melchizedek, foreshadowing Israel's covenantal future.
The chapter opens with a war among several kings, culminating in the defeat of Chedorlaomer and the capture of Lot, Abram’s relative. Abram assembles 318 trained men, defeats the captors, and brings back Lot and their goods. Afterward, the king of Sodom meets Abram, who refuses to take the Sodomites' wealth, instead offering only the share of his own attendants. Melchizedek, king and priest of Salem, blesses Abram and gives him tithes. The passage highlights themes of divine protection, covenantal faith, and the role of a high priest.
