Paul warns the Philippians against false teachers, recounts his own Jewish background, and urges them to pursue the true righteousness found in Christ.
In Philippians 3, Paul begins by urging the believers to rejoice and to beware of false teachers who undermine the gospel. He presents his own past as a Pharisee, circumcised on the eighth day, proud of his adherence to the law, yet declares that all those former gains are worthless compared to the knowledge of Christ. Paul emphasizes that true righteousness comes only through faith in Christ, not from the law, and that he has suffered loss for the sake of winning Christ. He stresses the importance of pressing toward the goal of knowing Christ, of living like the resurrected body, and of setting aside past achievements. Finally, he exhorts the Philippians to follow his example, warn against those who are enemies of the cross, and to keep their focus on heavenly salvation.
