Balaam, guided by God, blesses Israel and prophesies the future triumphs and defeats of surrounding nations, while Balak reacts in anger but ultimately is unable to influence the prophetic vision.
In Numbers 24, Balaam, after seeing Israel in the wilderness, is filled with the spirit of God and delivers a vivid blessing praising Israel’s tents and future prosperity. He foretells Israel’s dominance over Moab, Edom, and other enemies, highlighting divine justice and the coming of a kingic line from Jacob. Balak, angry at being cursed, confronts Balaam, who reminds him of his obligation to speak only what God says. Balaam continues with further prophecies about Amalek, the Kenites, and Assyria, underscoring the inevitability of God’s judgments. The chapter concludes with the return of Balaam and Balak, each following their own path, and the assurance that God’s will remains unchanged.
