God reproves Israel for its persistent idolatry and rebellion, warning of impending judgment while recalling His earlier mercy.
In Hosea 7, God laments that He was ready to heal Israel but discovers the depth of their corruption, especially in Ephraim and Samaria. The people’s wickedness, lies, and deceit gratify their king and princes, and they behave like an oven that will soon burn. Their hearts are hardened, they neglect God, and they seek security in Egypt and Assyria. Despite God’s binding and strengthening, they persist in rebellion and boast of their own might. The chapter ends with a stark warning that their continued pride will lead to their downfall, as God will bring them down like birds and punish them for their lies and deceitful actions.
