Jehoshaphat, after inheriting Judah’s throne, fortified the kingdom, eradicated idolatry, and promoted the law of God, leading to military strength and regional respect.
Upon becoming king, Jehoshaphat strengthened Judah’s defenses by stationing forces in all cities, especially those reclaimed from Israel. He was praised by the Lord for walking in David’s ways and rejecting Baalim, which brought divine support and prosperity. The king removed high places and groves, removing idolatrous worship. He dispatched priests and Levites, including notable teachers, to instruct the people with the Book of the Law throughout Judah. The fear of God deterred neighboring kingdoms from waging war against Judah. Philistines and Arabians sent gifts and tribute, further enhancing Jehoshaphat’s wealth. He built castles and fortified cities, amassing a large army of thousands, ensuring Judah’s military dominance.
